BUILDING LEADERS THROUGH HARD WORK, DEDICATION AND FAITH
Basketball season is back in action at Loyola High School. The Loyola Bulldogs have had an exciting season. The season began with a lofty set of goals set by coaches and players. These goals were felt to be attainable by coaches Buscemi, D’Luge, Edge, Black, Rucker and Tidwell due to the hard work that was put in by the players during the summer.
The motto, and challenge for the season has been “Commitment to Excellence”, but it has taken some time for the Bulldogs to buy into the coach’s philosophy. The season started off on the right track with a 51-41victory over Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central on the road. Junior guard Devonte Jones led the way with 21 points.
The Bulldogs followed that victory with a few more wins, including a 62-22 domination of usual class a power Highland Park High School. The victory over Highland Park came in the championship game of their Christmas Tournament
The Bulldogs started the second half of the season with their second win over Royal Oak Shrine. The Bulldogs finished second in the division behind Pontiac Notre Dame Prep. They defeated Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes and Detroit Cristo Rey in the Catholic League Playoffs to earn them the right to play for the Catholic League Championship at Calihan Hall.
